Auglaize County, Ohio sits in the western part of the state, anchored by its county seat of Wapakoneta. The county court system spans several tiers — from the Court of Common Pleas down through the Municipal Court, Probate Court, Domestic Relations Court, Juvenile Court, and five Mayor’s Courts scattered across small municipalities. Whether you are researching a case history, verifying a judgment, or requesting copies of legal filings, understanding which court holds the records you need — and what procedures apply — is the essential first step.

Ohio court records can be located through official resources maintained by the clerk’s office, public-access terminals at the courthouse, and court-specific online portals. OhioCourts.us provides a statewide reference point for identifying courts, finding case information, and navigating the Ohio judiciary. Alongside that state-level resource, Auglaize County maintains its own publicly accessible portals that allow case searches without requiring a visit to the courthouse.

How to Look Up a Court Case in Auglaize County?

The Auglaize County Clerk of Courts, currently Mandy L. Dunlap, serves as the central recordkeeper for Common Pleas, Domestic Relations, and Municipal Court cases. Searches can be conducted online, in person, or by mail.

Online Case Search Portals

The clerk’s office operates separate CourtView portals for each court division:

When searching online, users should enter at least the first three letters of the subject’s last name and the first letter of their first name. Spelling variations are worth trying, as the system will not automatically suggest alternatives. Note that Common Pleas records entered before February 1, 2000, may not appear in the online portal and must be accessed in person during office hours. For Municipal Court, Traffic and Criminal records before October 1, 1993, and Civil/Small Claims records before April 1, 1994, are similarly available only at the clerk’s office.

Are Court Records Public in Auglaize County?

Ohio’s Public Records Act, O.R.C. § 149.43, establishes the general rule that government records — including court records — are open to the public upon request. In Auglaize County, this means that most case filings, judgments, docket entries, and court orders across civil, criminal, and probate divisions are accessible to any individual without needing to establish a specific interest or relationship to a case.

However, the law carves out several categories that courts are required to withhold or restrict:

  • Sealed or expunged records — once sealed under court order, these are removed from public view entirely
  • Juvenile records — records in cases involving minors are confidential by statute
  • Adoption records — sealed under Ohio law and accessible only by court order
  • Active criminal investigation materials — law enforcement records tied to open investigations are exempt
  • Medical and mental health records — protected under both state and federal law
  • Records containing confidential personal identifiers — including Social Security numbers and certain financial account data

When documents contain a mix of public and restricted information, courts may redact the confidential portions and release the remainder. Requests for sealed or expunged records will typically be denied without a court order. If you are uncertain whether a specific record is accessible, the Clerk of Courts office can advise on applicable restrictions before you make a formal request.
