Coshocton County, Ohio, maintains a court system composed of the Common Pleas Court (General and Domestic Relations Divisions), the Probate and Juvenile Division, and the Municipal Court. Each of these courts generates its own set of records — case filings, dockets, orders, judgments, and supporting documents — which collectively form the county’s judicial record. Under the Rules of Superintendence for the Courts of Ohio, these records fall into two categories: case documents (pleadings, motions, exhibits, and judgments filed in judicial proceedings) and administrative documents (records created or maintained by the court in connection with its operations).

Ohio residents and researchers have multiple avenues for locating court case information, including clerk’s office visits, online case management portals, and public access terminals at the courthouse. OhioCourts.us provides a statewide resource for identifying courts, locating case information, and navigating Ohio’s judicial system for publicly available records.

How to Look Up a Court Case in Coshocton County?

The Coshocton County Clerk of Courts, currently Camila J. Graham, maintains records for the Common Pleas Court, the Title Office, and the Ohio Supreme Court’s Fifth District Court of Appeals. The Clerk’s office is the starting point for most records searches involving civil, criminal, and domestic relations cases.

Online Search — Common Pleas Court

The Clerk of Courts provides an online eServices portal for searching Common Pleas Court case dockets and indices. Records go back to January 1, 1999 (or earlier if a case has been reopened), and document imaging began November 1, 2019. Case images for documents filed on or after that date are available online unless restricted by Ohio law. Domestic Violence cases are specifically excluded from the online system as they are not public record.

Search criteria available through the portal include name, case number, case type, action code, and attorney information.

Historic Civil Record Indexes — for research predating 1999, the Clerk has made three scanned civil record indexes publicly available:

Note that case images are not available for these historic records; in-person visits or a paid genealogy researcher are required to obtain copies. FamilySearch has also imaged some historic Clerk of Courts documents and will make them available on its website.

Online Search — Municipal Court

The Coshocton County Municipal Court maintains a separate case record search system on its own website. Records are updated with a delay of at least 24 hours following court filings or judicial action.

Are Court Records Public in Coshocton County?

The Ohio Public Records Act, O.R.C. Section 149.43, requires that public records be open for inspection and available for copying upon request. Courts and clerks must respond within a reasonable time, and requesters are entitled to obtain paper copies for a fee. This right applies broadly to court records in Coshocton County, though the Rules of Superintendence Rule 45 permits courts and clerks to restrict access when records are deemed confidential.

The following categories of information are not available to the general public:

  • Juvenile court records
  • Trial preparation records
  • Adoption proceeding records, including files maintained by the Ohio Department of Health
  • Financial account numbers — bank accounts, credit and debit card numbers
  • Driver’s license numbers and Social Security numbers (except the last four digits)
  • Employer and employee identification numbers
  • The name of a criminal offense victim when the victim or their representative has requested redaction
  • The name of a sexual offense victim (initials or a generic designation such as “Victim 1” may be used)
  • Domestic Violence case records (excluded from the online eServices system)

When a public record contains both restricted and non-restricted information, the court or clerk is required to redact the protected portions and provide access to the remainder. Records that do not fall into a protected category are presumptively public and must be made available for inspection and copying.
